Transfer partner cheat sheet

Points-and-miles tool

Transfer partner cheat sheet

The complete master reference for moving transferable points to airline and hotel partners. Every partner relationship for Chase UR, Amex MR, Citi TYP, Capital One Miles, and Bilt — verified ratios, processing times, and strategic notes for 2026. Companion to the Points Valuation Tool — that tool tells you what your points are worth; this one tells you where you can move them.

5 currencies covered 60+ partners mapped Updated May 2026

How to use this cheat sheet

Transferable points are valuable precisely because they aren’t locked into a single airline or hotel program. Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, Capital One Miles, and Bilt Rewards each transfer to specific partner programs at specific ratios — and those partner relationships determine which redemptions are actually available to you. The Park Hyatt Maldives at 30K Hyatt points is only reachable if you hold Chase UR or Bilt Rewards. Qatar Qsuites at 75K AAdvantage miles is only reachable if you hold Citi TYP (since July 2025) or directly earn AAdvantage.

This cheat sheet maps every partnership across the 5 major transferable currencies. Use it three ways: (1) Before transferring, verify the exact ratio and processing time. (2) Before applying for a new card, identify which transferable currency reaches your target partners. (3) When planning a specific redemption, find the cheapest transferable-points path to the airline or hotel program you need.

The 5 transferable currencies

The five major transferable points programs in the U.S. credit card market. Each has distinct strengths in partner coverage, processing speed, and unique transfer relationships. Most active travelers hold multiple currencies — not one — because partner coverage differs meaningfully between programs:

14partners 2.0¢avg value Instantmost transfers

The highest-average-value transferable currency for most travelers. Hyatt exclusive 1:1 transfer is the single strongest hotel redemption in points-and-miles. Virgin Atlantic, United, Aeroplan, Air France/KLM, JetBlue, Southwest covers most major travel redemption paths. Earned via Chase Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred, Freedom Flex, Freedom Unlimited, and World of Hyatt cards.

22partners 1.8¢avg value Variesby partner

The broadest international airline coverage. ANA exclusive 1:1 transfer (cheapest premium cabin to Japan), Singapore KrisFlyer for Suites, Cathay Pacific for Asian connections. Most Star Alliance and Oneworld partners covered. Earned via Amex Platinum, Amex Gold, Amex Business Platinum, Amex Business Gold, Amex Green, and other Membership Rewards-earning cards.

21partners 1.8¢avg value Most instant

The newcomer with major strategic upside. American AAdvantage 1:1 transfer added July 27, 2025 — giving Citi TYP holders access to Qatar Qsuites at 75K and JAL business at 60K. Some partners use two-tier ratios (1:1 with certain Citi cards, 1:0.8 with others). Earned via Citi Strata Premier, Citi Premier (legacy), and select other Citi cards.

22partners 1.7¢avg value 1-3 daystypical

The accessibility play. Not subject to Chase 5/24 rule, making it the easiest transferable currency to access for travelers already locked out of Chase. Strong partner network but missing Hyatt — a meaningful limitation vs. Chase UR. Some partners transfer at 2:1.5 ratio rather than 1:1. Earned via Capital One Venture X, Venture, VentureOne, and Spark business cards.

16+partners 1.7¢avg value Instantmost transfers

The rent-paying unique play. Largest 1:1 transfer network for renters earning on rent payments. Bilt is the ONLY transferable currency earning on rent without processing fees. Hyatt 1:1 transfer (the rare non-Chase path), American AAdvantage, Alaska, Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic, and 11+ more partners. Wells Fargo Bilt card retired Feb 2026; new Bilt Mastercard issued by Cardless.

Chase Ultimate Rewards partners

The 14 Chase UR transfer partners — 11 airline programs and 3 hotel programs. All transfer at 1:1 ratio (no two-tier complexity). Most transfers process instantly; a few partners take 1-2 hours. Bilt is the only other transferable currency reaching Hyatt — making Chase UR’s Hyatt access broadly unique:

Aer Lingus AerClubAer Lingus Oneworld 1:1 Instant Dublin gateway to Europe. Transatlantic premium cabin sweet spots on Aer Lingus-operated flights.
Singapore KrisFlyerSingapore Star Alliance 1:1 1-2 days Singapore Suites essentially KrisFlyer-only — Singapore releases minimal partner award space.
Emirates SkywardsEmirates Independent 1:1 2-3 days Emirates First Class redemptions. Heavy fuel surcharges on Emirates-operated flights.
Marriott BonvoyMarriott Hotel 1:1 Instant Rarely worth transferring — Marriott value at 0.75¢ vs. Chase UR at 2¢ wastes 60% of point value.
IHG One RewardsIHG Hotel 1:1 Instant Almost never worth transferring — IHG value at 0.7¢. Use Chase Travel Portal at 1.25-1.5¢ instead.

Amex Membership Rewards partners

The 22 Amex MR transfer partners — Amex has the broadest international airline coverage of any U.S. transferable currency. Most transfer at 1:1 ratio with notable exceptions for Hilton (1:2), Marriott (1:1 but weak), Delta (1:1 exclusive among transferables). Some partners take 24-72 hours; the slowest is ANA at up to 72 hours:

ANA Mileage ClubANA Star Alliance 1:1 1-3 days Amex exclusive 1:1. 75K RT business class to Japan low season. Earn elsewhere → transfer here for ANA biz.
Delta SkyMilesDelta SkyTeam 1:1 Instant Only transferable currency reaching Delta. Delta value at 1.1¢ is weakest big-three — rarely worth transferring vs. keeping MR.
Virgin AtlanticFlying Club SkyTeam 1:1 Instant ANA biz to Japan 47.5K Virgin one-way. Shared with Chase UR, Citi TYP, Bilt.
Air Canada AeroplanAeroplan Star Alliance 1:1 Instant No fuel surcharges. Strong for Star Alliance partner awards. Shared with Chase UR, Citi TYP, Capital One, Bilt.

Avianca LifeMilesAvianca Star Alliance 1:1 Instant Star Alliance partner sweet spots. Often better than United for the same flights.
Air France / KLMFlying Blue SkyTeam 1:1 Instant European routes via Paris, Amsterdam. Promo Awards 25-50% off published rates.
British AirwaysAvios Oneworld 1:1 Instant Short-haul European or intra-Asia only. Avoid for transatlantic — heavy fuel surcharges.
Iberia PlusIberia Oneworld 1:1 Instant European routes via Madrid. Lower fuel surcharges than BA Avios.
Aer Lingus AerClubAer Lingus Oneworld 1:1 Instant Dublin gateway to Europe. Premium cabin sweet spots on Aer Lingus-operated transatlantic.

Emirates SkywardsEmirates Independent 1:1 2-3 days Emirates First Class. Heavy fuel surcharges on Emirates-operated flights.
Qatar Privilege ClubQatar Oneworld 1:1 1-2 days Direct Qatar Privilege Club path. Qsuites via direct Qatar booking. Citi TYP also transfers.
Hawaiian AirlinesHawaiian Oneworld 1:1 2-3 days Joined Oneworld 2024 via Alaska merger. Hawaii routes from West Coast.
El Al MatmidEl Al Independent 1,000:25 3-5 days Poor ratio (effectively 40:1). Rarely worth transferring; included for completeness.
Hilton HonorsHilton Hotel 1:2 Instant Best Amex MR hotel transfer. 1:2 bonus ratio makes Hilton transfers occasionally worth it for high-cost properties.
Marriott BonvoyMarriott Hotel 1:1 Instant Rarely worth it — Marriott 0.75¢ value vs. MR 1.8¢ value wastes 60% of point worth.
Choice PrivilegesChoice Hotel 1:1 Instant Amex exclusive. Comfort Suites Tokyo Bay (Disney shuttle) at 8K Choice points — strong family value.

The Amex MR strategic edge: Three unique relationships make Amex MR essential for active international travelers. (1) ANA 1:1 for cheapest premium cabin to Japan. (2) Singapore KrisFlyer shared with Chase but Amex MR earns more reliably given Amex Gold and Platinum category bonuses. (3) Delta SkyMiles as the only transferable currency reaching Delta — though Delta’s weak value rarely justifies actual transfers. The Hilton 1:2 ratio is the other Amex differentiator: while Hilton’s per-point value is low, the 2x transfer multiplier partially offsets it.

Citi ThankYou Points partners

The 21 Citi TYP transfer partners. Most strategic 2025 development: American AAdvantage added July 27, 2025 at 1:1 ratio — opening Qatar Qsuites at 75K, JAL business at 60K, and JAL first at 80K to Citi cardholders. Two-tier ratios apply to some partners — Citi Strata Premier and other premium Citi cards get 1:1, while basic Citi cards (Custom Cash, Double Cash) get reduced ratios:

The two-tier ratio issue with Citi TYP

Citi TYP transfers at 1:1 with premium Citi cards (Strata Premier, Premier legacy) — but transfers at only 1:0.8 ratio with basic Citi cards (Citi Custom Cash, Citi Double Cash). This means $1 spent on Citi Double Cash earns 2 TYP, but those 2 TYP only transfer to airline partners as 1.6 airline miles. If you’re serious about Citi TYP transfer strategy, you must hold a Citi Strata Premier or other premium Citi card — otherwise your earning rate is effectively reduced by 20% on partner transfers.

Capital One Miles partners

The 22 Capital One Miles transfer partners. Most transfer at 1:1, but several use 2:1.5 ratio (effectively 1.33:1) — meaningfully worse than competing transferable currencies. Capital One’s accessibility (no 5/24 rule) is its main strategic edge; partner coverage is solid but missing Hyatt is meaningful:

Capital One Miles transfer partners

JAL Mileage BankJAL Oneworld 2:1.5 1-2 days Reduced ratio. Effectively 1.33:1. AAdvantage via Citi TYP at 1:1 is dramatically better for JAL bookings.
Aeromexico PremierAeromexico SkyTeam 1:1 1-2 days Mexico City gateway. Latin American connections.
TAP Miles&GoTAP Portugal Star Alliance 1:1 3-5 days Portuguese gateway. Strong for European destinations.
Finnair PlusFinnair Oneworld 1:1 3-5 days Helsinki gateway. Finnair business class to Asia from Europe.
Wyndham RewardsWyndham Hotel 1:1 Instant Vacasa vacation rentals at 15K Wyndham/night.
Choice PrivilegesChoice Hotel 1:1 Instant Comfort Suites Tokyo Bay at 8K Choice points = strong family value.
Accor Live LimitlessAccor Hotel 2:1 1-3 days Effectively 0.5:1 ratio. European hotel chain. Rarely worth transferring at this rate.

The Capital One ratio problem: Several Capital One transfer partners use reduced ratios (2:1.5 = effectively 1.33:1) that meaningfully erode the value of Capital One transfers vs. competitor currencies. JAL Mileage Bank at 2:1.5 from Capital One is much worse than AAdvantage at 1:1 from Citi TYP for the same JAL flights. For travelers prioritizing transfer optimization, Citi TYP and Chase UR are stronger primary currencies; Capital One’s role is best as a complement for the partners where 1:1 ratios apply, leveraging Capital One’s no-5/24 accessibility.

Bilt Rewards partners

The 16+ Bilt transfer partners. All transfer at 1:1 ratio — Bilt’s structural advantage is the cleanest partner pricing among major transferable currencies. The unique value driver: Bilt earns on rent payments without processing fees, giving rent-paying households a path to 1:1 transfers across this entire partner network on spending that no other card earns points on:

Bilt’s unique transfer position

Bilt’s structural advantages are easy to miss in a quick scan. (1) Hyatt access without holding a Chase card — for travelers locked out of Chase via 5/24, Bilt is the only remaining 1:1 path to Hyatt. (2) Direct Alaska Atmos Rewards transfer — Bilt is the only major transferable currency reaching Alaska directly, opening Qatar Qsuites at 70K Alaska miles. (3) Clean 1:1 ratios across all partners — no reduced ratios like Capital One’s 2:1.5 traps. (4) Earnable on rent payments without processing fees — making it the only transferable currency where renters can systematically build large point balances from spending no other card captures.

Transfer bonuses

Each major transferable currency periodically offers transfer bonuses to specific partners — typically 20-40% bonus points credited to the destination program when you transfer during a promotional window. Transfer bonuses can boost your effective per-point value by 25-50% and are the single highest-ROI timing opportunity in points-and-miles. Recent and recurring transfer bonus examples:

Chase UR → Virgin Atlantic

Common 30% bonus. Recurs 2-3 times per year. 100K UR transfers as 130K Virgin points — turning the ANA 47.5K biz redemption into effectively a 36.5K UR cost.

Amex MR → Air Canada Aeroplan

Recurring 20-30% bonus. Strong for Star Alliance partner award stacking. 100K MR transfers as 120-130K Aeroplan during bonus periods.

Amex MR → ANA

Less frequent 25-40% bonus. Watch for this carefully — bonuses to ANA effectively reduce the cost of Japan business class redemptions by 25-40%.

Citi TYP → Various

Citi runs regular 20-30% bonuses to Avianca LifeMiles, Singapore KrisFlyer, and Turkish Airlines. Less consistent timing than Chase or Amex bonuses but worth tracking.

Capital One → Various

Capital One offers occasional bonuses to Cathay, Singapore, and select partners. Bonus frequency is lower than Chase or Amex; verify current promotions before transferring.

Bilt → Hyatt / AAdvantage

Periodic 100% bonus to Hyatt on “Rent Day” (1st of month) — though specific bonus dynamics depend on Bilt’s monthly promotional schedule. Worth checking Bilt’s app on the 1st for boosted transfer ratios.

The strategic implication: Don’t transfer points speculatively for “future use” — transfer specifically when you need them for a confirmed redemption OR during a transfer bonus. Sitting on a Virgin Atlantic balance when no transfer bonus is active means you missed the opportunity to transfer at 30% bonus when it returns. Use sites like DoctorOfCredit or FrequentMiler to track active transfer bonus promotions.

Best transfer by use case

The most common transfer questions readers ask — with the optimal answer based on actual partner relationships and ratios. Use these as quick-decision references when planning specific redemptions:

Use case 01

Book Hyatt hotel award

Park Hyatt Maldives, Park Hyatt Tokyo, Hyatt Place Kyoto — the strongest hotel redemptions in points-and-miles. Only two transferable currencies reach Hyatt: Chase UR and Bilt Rewards. If you hold either, transfer 1:1 instantly. If you hold neither, you have no transferable-points path to Hyatt — you’d need to earn Hyatt points directly via the World of Hyatt credit card or paid stays.

Best path

Chase UR → Hyatt (most common) or Bilt → Hyatt (for non-Chase holders). Both 1:1, both instant.

Use case 02

Book Qatar Qsuites via AAdvantage

The gold standard premium cabin redemption to the Maldives at 75K AAdvantage miles one-way. Two transferable paths exist as of 2026: Citi TYP → AAdvantage (1:1, added July 2025) or Bilt → AAdvantage (1:1). For Chase or Amex holders without Citi/Bilt access, this redemption isn’t available via transferable points; you’d need to earn AAdvantage directly.

Best path

Citi TYP → AAdvantage at 1:1 (since July 2025) or Bilt → AAdvantage at 1:1. Both options unlock Qsuites at 75K.

Use case 03

Book ANA business to Japan

The cheapest premium cabin redemption from the U.S. — 47.5K Virgin Atlantic points one-way for ANA business class. Four transferable currencies reach Virgin Atlantic at 1:1: Chase UR, Amex MR, Citi TYP, Bilt. Capital One reaches Virgin Atlantic via Virgin Red (1:1). Five viable transferable paths total — making this redemption broadly accessible.

Best path

Any of Chase UR, Amex MR, Citi TYP, or Bilt → Virgin Atlantic 1:1. Phone booking required to access ANA award space via Virgin.

Use case 04

Book JAL business class

60K AAdvantage one-way for JAL business, 80K for first class on JAL’s new A350-1000. Citi TYP and Bilt reach AAdvantage at 1:1 (cleanest paths). Capital One reaches JAL directly but at 2:1.5 ratio (effectively 1.33:1) — significantly worse than going through AAdvantage at 1:1. Use Citi TYP or Bilt for JAL bookings; avoid Capital One’s reduced JAL ratio.

Best path

Citi TYP → AAdvantage at 1:1 (book JAL flight via AA) or Bilt → JAL at 1:1 (direct JAL booking via JAL Mileage Bank).

Use case 05

Book Lufthansa Allegris business

Lufthansa’s new Allegris business class at 85K-95K Aeroplan points one-way from the U.S. All five transferable currencies reach Aeroplan at 1:1 — Chase UR, Amex MR, Citi TYP, Capital One, Bilt. Aeroplan offers no fuel surcharges (unlike United’s pass-through). Most broadly accessible premium European booking.

Best path

Any of Chase UR, Amex MR, Citi TYP, Capital One, or Bilt → Air Canada Aeroplan 1:1. All five transferable currencies work.

Use case 06

Book Marriott or IHG via transfer

Don’t. Marriott values transferred points at 0.75¢ and IHG at 0.7¢ — vs. Chase UR at 2¢, Amex MR at 1.8¢. Transferring transferable points to Marriott or IHG hotel programs typically wastes 60% of point value. Better alternatives: book Marriott or IHG through the issuer’s portal at 1.25-1.5¢ per point (still better than transferring), or pay cash and earn points instead.

Best path

Don’t transfer to Marriott or IHG. Use issuer portal redemption or pay cash. Hyatt is the only hotel transfer that consistently delivers value above 1.5¢.

Common mistakes

These mistakes cost the most value in points-and-miles transfers. All are preventable with the framework above:

!

Transferring before confirming award availability

Point transfers are irreversible. The biggest preventable mistake in transfers: moving Chase UR to Virgin Atlantic, Amex MR to ANA, or Citi TYP to AAdvantage before verifying the specific award seats are actually available. Always confirm availability and place a phone hold first, then transfer points. See the Award Availability guide for the full hold-and-transfer workflow.

!

Transferring to Marriott, IHG, or weak hotel partners

Hotel transfers from transferable currencies are rarely worth it — except Hyatt. Marriott at 0.75¢ value vs. Chase UR at 2¢ means transferring wastes 60% of point worth. IHG, Wyndham, and Choice are similar. The Hyatt exception: Hyatt’s 2¢+ value matches Chase UR’s, making transfers neutral or positive. All other hotel transfers represent value destruction.

!

Using Capital One’s reduced ratios on JAL or EVA

Capital One’s 2:1.5 transfer ratios to JAL Mileage Bank and EVA Air mean each 2 Capital One miles only become 1.5 partner miles — effectively losing 25% of value vs. a 1:1 partner. For JAL bookings specifically: Citi TYP → AAdvantage at 1:1 is dramatically better than Capital One → JAL at 2:1.5. Don’t use Capital One transfers when 1:1 paths exist.

!

Citi TYP transfers from basic Citi cards (1:0.8 ratio)

Citi TYP transfers at 1:1 with premium Citi cards (Strata Premier) but only 1:0.8 with basic Citi cards (Custom Cash, Double Cash). If you want full transfer value, you must hold a Strata Premier or other premium Citi card — otherwise transfers effectively cost 20% more in TYP than published partner ratios suggest. This catches many readers off-guard.

!

Missing transfer bonuses

Transfer bonuses periodically elevate effective transfer ratios by 25-50% — a Chase UR → Virgin Atlantic 30% bonus during a promotional window means 100K UR transfers as 130K Virgin instead of 100K. Track active transfer bonuses via DoctorOfCredit or FrequentMiler before transferring. Sitting on points waiting 2 months for a bonus often beats transferring immediately during a normal period.

!

Forgetting that BA Avios pass through fuel surcharges

British Airways Avios transfers at 1:1 from multiple transferable currencies, making it look like a flexible option. But BA passes through $500+ in fuel surcharges on transpacific or transatlantic routes. Use BA Avios only for short-haul European or intra-Asia routes where the cash component stays under $50. For long-haul, transfer to AAdvantage, Alaska, or Aeroplan instead.

Frequently asked questions

How often are transfer ratios updated?

Reviewed quarterly with immediate updates pushed when partner relationships change. Recent major changes: Citi TYP added AAdvantage at 1:1 (July 2025), Bilt added Alaska Atmos Rewards (early 2025), Capital One added Virgin Red 1:1 (2024), Amex MR added Qatar Privilege Club (2024). Issuers periodically add/remove partners or adjust ratios. Verify current ratios on the issuer’s official transfer page before initiating any transfer — the ratios shown here are current as of May 2026 but may shift.

Which transferable currency has the best overall partner network?

Depends on your priorities. Chase UR: Best for Hyatt (Chase-exclusive). Amex MR: Broadest international airline coverage (22 partners) and ANA-exclusive 1:1 transfer. Citi TYP: Strongest growth trajectory after July 2025 AAdvantage addition; good international coverage. Capital One: Strong basic coverage but missing Hyatt and using 2:1.5 ratios on JAL/EVA. Bilt: Uniquely strong — Hyatt 1:1 (only non-Chase path), Alaska 1:1 (exclusive), AAdvantage 1:1, plus 13+ more at clean 1:1. Most active travelers hold 3-4 of these currencies, not one.

Are transfer times realistic or marketing claims?

Mostly realistic. “Instant” transfers (most Chase, Amex, Citi, Bilt) really do complete within seconds to a few minutes. “1-2 day” transfers (Singapore KrisFlyer, Cathay, ANA, Qatar) reliably complete in that window. The exceptions: ANA can take up to 72 hours (especially from Amex MR), and Capital One transfers consistently take longer than their published times. If you need fast transfers, prioritize Chase UR or Bilt — both have the most reliable instant transfer performance.

Can I transfer points to someone else’s account?

Limited cases. Chase UR: Can transfer between Chase UR-earning cards owned by you, plus to a spouse/partner in the same household once per 24 months. Amex MR: Cannot transfer to another person’s account. Citi TYP: Can pool with a household member’s TYP balance via Citi’s “Points Sharing” feature. Capital One Miles: Can transfer to another Capital One member you specify. Bilt: Cannot transfer to another person directly. The cleanest path for couples: add each other as authorized users on each card, allowing both to earn into the same household balance.

What’s the difference between transferring to airlines vs. using the issuer’s portal?

Transfers go to a partner’s mileage program (Virgin Atlantic, United, AAdvantage, etc.) at the published ratio, where you then book using the partner’s award chart. Issuer portals (Chase Travel, Amex Travel, Capital One Travel) let you book paid travel using points at fixed values — typically 1.25-1.5¢ per point. Transfers are better for premium cabin sweet spots (Qatar Qsuites at 5-7¢ per point via AAdvantage). Issuer portals are better for cash-equivalent redemptions (paid economy flights, hotel stays at fixed value). Both have their place; the right choice depends on the specific trip.

How do I find current transfer bonuses?

Several tracking sources publish active transfer bonus promotions. Best options: DoctorOfCredit’s transfer bonus tracker (updated weekly), FrequentMiler’s transfer bonus alerts, and Reddit r/churning’s monthly recap threads. Issuer-direct notifications: Chase, Amex, and Citi notify cardholders directly via email when major transfer bonuses launch. Subscribe to issuer marketing emails to catch these in real-time. Transfer bonuses last 2-6 weeks typically — don’t wait too long to act when one matches your target redemption.

What happens if I transfer points and the redemption falls through?

Generally, you’re stuck with the partner program’s currency. Most transfers are irreversible. If you transferred 100K Chase UR to Virgin Atlantic and the ANA seats vanished before you booked, those 100K Virgin Atlantic points cannot be transferred back to Chase UR. Your options at that point: (1) use the Virgin points for a different redemption, (2) book a different Virgin partner award, (3) let them sit until you find another opportunity. This is why phone-holding before transferring is so important — confirming availability prevents this scenario.

Are reduced ratios (2:1.5) always bad?

Generally yes, but with one exception. Capital One’s 2:1.5 ratios to JAL and EVA are worse than alternative 1:1 paths via Citi TYP or Bilt. The exception: if Capital One Miles are easier for you to earn (e.g., you’re locked out of Chase via 5/24 and can’t easily access Citi or Bilt), then a reduced ratio is still better than no transfer option at all. The honest framing: reduced ratios mean you’re earning fewer effective partner miles per dollar of spending, not that the transfer itself is impossible or unwise. Quantify the impact before deciding.
